Commitment to the Environment

González Byass continues to drive meaningful environmental change, with 68% of its vineyards now certified as sustainable. The company has cut emissions by 22% year on year and now sources 53% of its energy from renewables across its wineries in Spain, Mexico, and Chile.

Other achievements include a 12% reduction in water use compared to 2023 and a 99% waste recovery rate. In addition, since 2021, González Byass has been working on the recovery of a number of vineyards through the Ángel de Viñas project and continues to protect vineyard biodiversity through VIDas.

Positive Social Impact

González Byass closed the fiscal year with 962 employees and invested over 15,000 hours in training through the González Byass School, which supports professional growth.

Its commitment to local communities extends through cultural and social programmes, as well as wine tourism initiatives like Veranea en la Bodega, alongside partnerships that promote regional development.

Governance and Innovation

Guided by transparency and responsibility, over €3.1 million has been invested in environmental initiatives last year, while maintaining key certifications such as IFS Food and BRC Food. Beronia Rueda also became the company’s fifth winery to achieve the Sustainable Wineries for Climate Protection certification.

Innovation drives sustainability efforts, with R&D projects tackling key environmental challenges. These include Fuelphoria (carbon capture and storage in wineries), HarvREST (advancing renewable energy in agriculture with electric and autonomous machinery, agrivoltaics, and smart energy systems), and Rebo2Vino (exploring glass bottle reuse in the wine industry).

“We are a family that nurtures the land, cherishes wine, and distils magic to share the joy of life with the world. To do so sustainably, we are committed to securing a better future for all by creating a positive impact at every step we take,” says Victoria González-Gordon, Chief Sustainability Officer.

People + Planet: A Long-Term Vision

Vineyards are particularly vulnerable to climate change. Recognising this, González Byass launched its sustainability strategy over a decade ago—now called People + Planet—with commitments to protecting the environment and enhancing social well-being.

This programme drives company-wide sustainability efforts, with priorities including decarbonisation, water conservation, biodiversity protection, a circular economy, and community support.

2030 Sustainability Goals

González Byass has set ambitious 2030 targets, including a 55% reduction in CO₂ emissions (vs. 2019) and the extension of VIDas biodiversity projects across 100% of its vineyards. Water conservation remains a priority, with advanced irrigation management optimising use, while the company remains committed to maintaining its 99% waste recovery rate. Beyond environmental action, González Byass will continue investing in social and cultural initiatives that support local communities.

With People + Planet at the heart of its vision, González Byass remains dedicated to crafting exceptional wines and spirits while shaping a more sustainable future.
