Beronia Reserva, best red wine in the world

Published on

Beronia Reserva 2011 has achieved unprecedented success at the International Wine Challenge awards, where it has been considered Best Red Wine of the World for its excellent value for money. Along with this recognition in the most demanding wine competition worldwide, Beronia Reserva also obtained the triple crown of the event as it was recognised Best Red Wine of Spain, Best Rioja Wine and Best Rioja Reserva Wine.

Beronia Reserva managed to fully captivate the international wine experts that make up the jury of this event which, for the last 33 years, has distinguished the best wines in the world. Strict blind tasting sessions and rigorous assessments have confirmed the quality of this modern-style enveloping reserva, made from carefully selected Tempranillo, Mazuelo and Graciano grapes.

This triumph adds value to winemaker Matías Calleja’s commitment to producing wines with a unique style, known as "the Beronia Style". Ever since he joined the winery –located in Ollauri– in 1980, Calleja has encouraged the pursuit of excellence and quality –from the vineyard to the barrels, where Beronia pioneered the use of mixed-wood casks, with staves of American oak and French-oak heads.

The result are wines that, just like Beronia Reserva, combine the Rioja style –one of the oldest designations of origin in Spain– with a modernity that is based on innovation and the adaptation to new tastes.
