Every year the Guía de Vinos Gourmets (Fine Wine Guide) receives votes cast by its readers to select the year’s best wines. In 2019, the one that was given the most votes in the “Best young white” category was Viñas del Vero Chardonnay. These awards, which will be delivered to the winners at the 34th Salón Gourmets, reveal consumer preferences and trends in the wine market. This year’s winners include this unique 100% Chardonnay from Viñas del Vero, Somontano’s foremost winery.
Freshness and expression are the defining features of Viñas del Vero Chardonnay, a Somontano white wine that has become one of the benchmarks for the variety in Spain. Made from grapes grown in dedicated vineyards, the year’s “Best young white” is made following a delicate process, under the guidance of Viñas del Vero’s winemaker, José Ferrer.
The result is a bright wine that displays aromas of citrus and exotic fruit. Full of flavour, intense and expressive on the palate, it is a delight to drink, full-bodied and with a long finish, reflecting how well Chardonnay has adapted to Somontano and how long it has been there. Served at 8oC to 10oC, it is ideal for drinking with all types of appetizer, salads, creamy soups, quiches and fish.
