Finca Constancia begins the pruning of its biodynamic vineyard

Coinciding with the waning moon in its descending phase, the winery has started the pruning work on the 15 hectares of biodynamic vineyard selected for the making of Finca Constancia Entre Lunas, a 100% Tempranillo wine made following biodynamic viticulture techniques. This cultivation method is an evolution of ecological agriculture and is based on the theories developed by Austrian philosopher Rudolf Steiner, founder of anthroposophy. Biodynamic viticulture understands the vine, the soil and their environment as an equilibrium system that should avoid, as far as possible, external interventions. This practice considers the plot of land as a living being where the actions carried out on it will have a direct impact on its future development. Like organic agriculture, biodynamic viticulture excludes the use of artificial fertilisers and herbicides, using instead natural preparations made of vegetables, animal matter and minerals that work as fertilising additives. The difference between the two techniques lies in the use of the astronomical calendar, which marks the beginning of the planting, fertilisation, pruning and harvesting processes in the vineyard. One of the pillars of this current are the so-called "biodynamic preparations", used to naturally improve the different processes in the vineyard. Made from a vegetable element, manure and cow horns, the preparations are buried 50 cm down in the ground, taking into account the astral biodynamic calendar and the influence of the energies of the universe on the vine.
