Fino Tío Pepe and Oloroso Alfonso: success around the world

Published on
The Wine Advocate, Robert Parker's publication, has awarded the Jerez-Sherry González Byass wines more than 90 points; those wines have also triumphed in the "Drinks International Bar Report" and received awards from the AEPEV, the Spanish Association of Wine Journalists and Writers. González Byass has started 2018 with excellent scores in Robert Parker's magazine, The Wine Advocate. This American publication –one of the most influential in the international wine scene– has given ratings above 90 points to seven Jerez-Sherry wines signed by the maker of Tío Pepe. Among all of them stand out Tío Pepe Cuatro Palmas and Alfonso 1/6, with 96 and 95 points each. The Wine Advocate, established by Robert Parker in 1978, has thus rewarded the quality of Tío Pepe Cuatro Palmas, a Very Old Amontillado made from just one of the six barrels that have been ageing in the González Byass cellars for 51 years. The same goes for Alfonso Oloroso 1/6, the first "Vino Finito" by the winery: a true wine relic that escapes usual categorisation as well as the possibility of being replicated in the future, due to its very limited production. For the rest, the other wine jewels that make up the Tío Pepe Finos Palmas Collection also received exceptional scores: 93 points went to Tío Pepe Tres Palmas and Tío Pepe Dos Palmas, and 91+ points to Tío Pepe Una Palma. Tío Pepe en Rama 2017 and Tío Pepe en Rama 2016, with 91+ and 90 points each, also appeared in the top positions of the ranking.   Tío Pepe, the best sold and most coveted of 2017 Tío Pepe, the icon of the González Byass Family of Wine, has been the best-selling and most desired sherry wine in the world in 2017, according to the latest edition of the Drinks International Bar Report. To prepare this report, the British magazine Drinks International surveys bartenders from the bars included in the The World's 50 Best Bars ranking to determine which the best-sold wines and spirits –as well as those most desired by consumers– of the previous year have been.   Success in the AEPEV Awards The Jerez-Sherry González Byass wines and brandies have also received great recognition in Spain. AEPEV (the Spanish Association of Wine Journalists and Writers) has placed Noé, Apóstoles, Tío Pepe en Rama and Lepanto Solera Gran Reserva PX among the "Best Wines and Spirits of 2017". For this ranking, the members of the association had to select among the 655 brands that entered the first stage of the competition, of which only 127 wines and 42 spirits made it to the final.
