Published on
Matusalem Oloroso Dulce Muy Viejo V.O.R.S, one of González Byass’ wine gems, has been acknowledged as "Best Fortified Wine" at the Japan Wine Challenge international competition. This wine, the only Spanish wine awarded the event’s highest honour, received the award from Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado, at a gala dinner held in Tokyo. Regarded as one of the most prestigious wine events in the world, the latest edition of Japan Wine Challenge has received nearly 1,400 samples from 28 countries, of which only 12 have been awarded the highest distinction. Its international jury is made up of 30 renowned professionals: among them are Masters of Wine Lynne Sherriff, David Wrigley, Anthony Rose and Andrew Caillard, who acknowledged the uniqueness and complexity of Matusalem, a sherry of limited production that ages for more than 30 years. Antonio Flores, chief winemaker and master blender at González Byass, expressed his satisfaction saying that "this winery is proud to receive this important award from Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado, after such a demanding competition as the Japan Wine Challenge represents. Both the Japanese market and Far Eastern markets are very important for González Byass. This award will help us promote the quality and uniqueness of sherry wines."
