Mauricio González-Gordon joins the Grand Order of the Knights of Wine

Published on
The Gran Orden de los Caballeros del Vino (Grand Order of the Knights of Wine) has appointed Mauricio González-Gordon, President of González Byass, as a new Knight of Wine. This distinction acknowledges his excellent track record and commitment to the promotion of Spanish quality wines in the UK. The investiture took place at the annual dinner held by this organisation at the Dorchester Hotel in London. The Grand Order of the Knights of Wine, founded in 1984 by the Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade (ICEX), emerged as an instrument for promoting Spanish wines and –more specifically– to acknowledge those personalities who have outstandingly contributed to this promotion in the UK. Each year, two new members –whose identities remain secret until the day of the dinner– become part of the Order. They are elected by secret ballot among six candidates nominated by the members of the Order itself. Currently, the Grand Order is made up of 61 members from Spain and the United Kingdom. Following his appointment, Mauricio González-Gordon stated: "it is an honour to be accepted into such a prestigious association. It is a great privilege to be recognised as a professional working in such a wonderful area, surrounded by great people who do so much to enhance the image of Spanish wines all over the world".
