González Byass has received the award for Best European Winery at the Wine Star Awards 2018. The jury of this competition –organised by Wine Enthusiast, one of the most influential publications in the US– has recognised the success of this Jerez-based Family of Wines in the international markets and, especially, in the United States.
Before reaching their decision, the jury had to consider two other crucial aspects: González Byass’ commitment to the making of unique wines that faithfully express the terroir in which they grow, and the implementation by all the wineries of artisanal, environmentally friendly techniques. This way, Bodegas Beronia (Q. D. of O. Rioja), Viñas del Vero (D. of O. Somontano), Tío Pepe (D. of O. Jerez/Sherry), Cavas Vilarnau (D. of O. Cava), Beronia Rueda (D. of O. Rueda), Pazos de Lusco (D. of O. Rías Baixas), Finca Constancia (Tierra de Castilla Regional Wines) and Finca Moncloa (Tierra de Cádiz Regional Wines), have become the most representative, Best Family of Wines from Europe in the United States.
Since its establishment in 1835, this winery, currently run by the fifth generation of the González family, has shown a strong exporting ambition which has placed it in more than 100 countries. The House not only produces its wines in the most outstanding wine regions of Spain: two years ago, it made the leap to the New World and incorporated Veramonte, in Chile, and Pedro Domecq, in Mexico. Those wines from the south and the centre of the continent travel directly to the United States, one of the major wine markets worldwide.
Mauricio González-Gordon, president of González Byass, will collect this award at the 19th annual Wine Star Awards gala, to be held on January 28, 2019, in Miami.
