González Byass’ star shone brightly at the 2019 Verema Awards, the competition where the members of Spain’s foremost online community of wine lovers cast their votes to select the winners. It did so courtesy of Apóstoles Palo Cortado Muy Viejo V.O.R.S, the “Best Fortified Wine”, and Antonio Flores, the Jerez winery’s winemaker, who was selected as “Wine World Top Personality of the Year.”
When voting for the winners, the online community had three nominees to choose from in each category. The choices, put forward by the editorial and tasting team at Verema, were based on comments and tasting notes posted on the portal by users over the year. In the case of the “Best Fortified Wine”, the majority voted for Apóstoles, an exceptional V.O.R.S. Very Old Palo Cortado whose standout feature is that it retains its unique personality for the 30 years and more during which it ages in the González Byass cellars.
It retains its character thanks to the patience, cosseting and constant care that Antonio Flores, the “Wine World’s Top Personality,” dispenses as he tends this exclusive González Byass solera. The Jerezano master is a driver of the #Sherry Revolution, the global movement initiated by González Byass that has brought about a new golden age for Sherry wines. As such, he has retained the personality and style that, since the winery’s foundation in 1835, have characterised the vinous jewels produced by this winery and that leave their mark the world over.
