In the third edition of the Vinari Awards, Vilarnau Brut Nature Ecológico 2012 has been selected as Best Organic Sparkling Wine of Catalonia. Organised by specialised portal Vadevi.cat, these awards aim to present the best wines of Catalonia.
Over a total of 839 samples from the major Catalan wine regions, organic cava Vilarnau stood at the top of the podium. This way, the award acknowledges the history and evolution of a winery that pioneered both the application of sustainable viticulture and environmental protection.
The label of this organic cava displays an illustration depicting the pair of herons that every summer nest at Vilarnau, on their way to Delta del Ebro National Park. In line with the philosophy of respect for the unique surroundings of Vilarnau, this label is made of 100% recyclable paper –based on calcium carbonate instead of trees– and organic ink.
Vilarnau Brut Nature Ecológico is made with Macabeo, Xarel.lo and Parellada grapes from vineyards certified as organic. After aging for 12 months on the wine’s lees, the result is an elegant and fresh cava, with hints of green fruit (apple and grape) and peach. The palate shows a long, pleasant finish.
