Vilarnau, one of the best champagnes and sparkling wines in the world

Published on
Competing among the great champagnes and sparkling wines in the world, Vilarnau Brut Reserva has won a Silver Medal at The Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships, organised by Tom Stevenson, the foremost expert on champagne and sparkling wines in the world. More than 650 wines from 16 countries have taken part in the event, which only awards Gold and Silver medals. Remarkably, the competition jury – made up of specialists in champagne and sparkling wines– gave awards only to 185 wines out of all those registered for the contest. The making of Vilarnau Brut Reserva is based on the traditional method of secondary fermentation in the bottle, and an 18-month aging process on the wine’s own lees. The result is a cava wine that combines a distinctly Mediterranean character –through the acidity and freshness given by grape varieties Macabeo and Parellada– with the classic aromatic enhancement conferred by the Xarel.lo grape from the Penedés area.
