González Byass, the Jerez-based Family of Wine, has been granted some significant awards at the International Wine Challenge Merchant Awards Spain 2016. In its more than three decades of history, the International Wine Challenge –one of the most prestigious contests in the world– has celebrated an edition for the first time in Spain.
Antonio Flores, top winemaker and master blender at González Byass, has been designated Best Spanish Winemaker of the Year. His passion, devotion and professionalism have resulted in numerous wine gems –one of them Amontillado Cuatro Palmas, which was also recognised as the Best Fortified Wine of 2016.
In addition, the González Byass Tío Pepe Shop in Jerez was granted the Best Winery Shop in Spain award. With this award, the jury of the competition has recognised the quality of the service provided and the unique experience offered at the Tío Pepe Shop to the thousands of wine tourists who visit it every year.
The extraordinary work of classification of wines in the cellars carried out by Mr. Flores, together with the recovery and dissemination of some historic sherry gems, such as the Finos Palmas Collection or Tío Pepe en Rama, have been decisive in obtaining this honour. In addition, Cuatro Palmas, a Very Old Amontillado that has aged at González Byass for the last 51 years, has been the best in its category.
Impeller of the #SherryRevolution, Antonio Flores has preserved the personality and style that, since the very founding of González Byass in 1835, have characterised the wine jewels made at this Jerez winery.
About Antonio Flores - @Hacedordevinos
Antonio Flores' bonds with González Byass have marked him since his birth, which took place in the very cellars, just above Tío Pepe’s primeval solera –his father being the Production Manager of the firm back then. Graduated in Oenology at the Rovira and Virgili University of Tarragona, he joined the González Byass technical team in 1980.
