The Finca Constancia experimental micro-winery is born with the objective of analysing the adaptation of some native and foreign red grape varieties, planted in its "Experimental Garden". The first varieties to be studied in this winery –made up of 12 frustoconical fermentation tanks and equipped with state-of-the-art technology– will be Malbec, Zinfandel, Barbera, Montepulciano, Touriga Nacional and Garnacha Tintorera.
Through this initiative –qualified for the FEDER Innterconecta program– information about these varieties –not largely widespread in the Spanish vineyards– will be collected: chiefly data concerning the evolution of the grapes, as well as their global balance and organoleptic characteristics. In addition, these data will be added to the studies that Finca Constancia has been carrying out since it planted, in 2001, its "Experimental Garden".
The "Garden" –designed in collaboration with the Universidad Politécnica of Madrid and the University of Castilla-La Mancha– has enabled the planting of native and foreign vine varieties so that researchers can study their development and reactions to the Finca Constancia grounds: these are soils very rich in different parameters and with great variability. To carry out a comprehensive analysis, the garden was divided into two distinct parts. One is a wide collection of varieties from around the world that are analysed as regards their adaptation to the climatology of the area; the second area displays the most representative vine training methods in the world, such as Bordeaux, Smart Dyson, Schott Henry, Lyre and Curtain, among others.
The garden and the experimental micro-winery are two examples of the innovative spirit of the Finca Constancia wineries, based on the quality, excellence and perfection present throughout the unique making process of every Finca Constancia Plot Wine.
