González Byass, the Jerez-based Family of Wine, has won some significant awards at the International Wine Challenge Merchant Awards Spain 2016. In its more than three decades of history, the International Wine Challenge –one of the most prestigious contests in the world– has celebrated an edition for the first time in Spain.
More than 200 guests attended the gala ceremony for the granting of these awards, which recognised the excellence of the González Byass wines and professionals. The night began with the Best Spanish Red Wine of the Year award, granted to Beronia Reserva 2011. Next, Antonio Flores, top winemaker and master blender of González Byass, was designated Best Spanish Winemaker of the Year. His extraordinary work of classification of wines in the cellars, together with his passion, devotion and professionalism, have resulted in a series of wine gems –one of them Amontillado Cuatro Palmas, which was also designated Best Fortified Wine of 2016.
The night concluded with the award to the Best Winery Shop, which went to the González Byass’ Tío Pepe Shop in Jerez.
