Secastilla 2012 (Designation of Origin Somontano) is the "Best Spanish Red Wine of the Year", according to the International Wine Challenge Merchant Awards Spain. Here –one of the most demanding wine competitions in the world– this wine made by wineries Viñas del Vero also won the awards “Best Red of Spain”, “Best Garnacha Wine” and “Best Grenache from Aragon”.
The special agroclimatic characteristics and the diversity of the Secastilla valley –a secluded place at the foot of the Pyrenees– make it possible to produce wines with a unique and distinct personality. Mountain viticulture and manual harvesting are the signs of identity of Secastilla, its wines reflecting the soil on which the grapes are born, which in turn owe their singular character to the vines of old Garnacha where they stand. This vineyard is grown and goblet-pruned in the Secastilla valley: a name that wineries Viñas del Vero reused, at the beginning of the 20th century, for this extremely charismatic wine.
For over 10 months, Secastilla evolves in the new French oak barrels that are attended by José Ferrer, top oenologist of the wineries. The fruit of this ageing is a wine that offers a spectacular combination of bright shades, tones of ripened fruit and shavings of chocolate, accompanied by deep aromas in the nose. Smoothness and pure fineness precede the explosion of intense taste that characterize this Somontano: an astonishingly ample, round and enveloping red.
Secastilla can be purchased in the most select restoration and distribution firms of Spain.
It is also available at the González Byass Online Shop.
