González Byass opens its doors to one of the most successful culinary TV shows in recent years: MasterChef. Contestants in the world's toughest cooking talent show –produced by Shine Iberia and broadcast on La 1 TVE– have toured the nooks and crannies of these ancient cellars, led by Mauricio González-Gordon, President of González Byass, and Antonio Flores, top oenologist and master blender of the winery.
Eva González, Pepe Rodríguez, Samantha Vallejo-Nájera and Jordi Cruz, host and judges of the show respectively, together with MasterChef contestants, had the chance to immerse themselves in the exciting world of sherry. Throughout this journey, the group could discover the different types of ancient wines, as well as a number of curiosities and anecdotes. Also, wielding their venencias, they practiced this art –consisting in pulling sherry samples from the barrels with this implement, and then pouring the liquid back into a glass –and ended the tour leaving their signatures on a Tío Pepe cask.
Iconic settings such as the Royal Cellar La Concha, the Ciegos Street, Cellars La Cuadrada, Los Apóstoles, La Constancia or Los Reyes, became perfect TV sets to host a television show that will broadcast Jerez and its wineries to an audience of millions.
After this immersion in the world of Jerez, Beronia became the central character in the final trial. The matching proposed: a barbecue and Beronia Reserva –a wine that represents the essence of this Rioja winery. In a festive atmosphere, contestants prepared a meal in the countryside and surprised their guests with top-quality displays of culinary harmony.
The episode– that will certainly add the wine touch to this MasterChef season– will be broadcast on 18 May on La 1 TVE at 10.15 pm.
