Vilarnau Brut Reserva has made history again when being awarded the "Best Cava" and "Best Spanish Sparkling Wine" recognitions at The Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships. These two distinctions, together with a further Gold Medal –all awarded at a competition that brings together the best champagnes and sparkling wines in the world– have made this Brut Reserva Best Cava of the Year. It was precisely the character of the cava, unique and inimitable, which pathed its way to the shortlist of the contest, made up of the 14 best sparkling wines and champagnes in the world.
The results of this competition –organised by Tom Stevenson, the world's leading expert in the field– confirms Vilarnau as one of the most prestigious international wineries. Since its first edition, the jury of the contest, made up of specialists such as the Master of Wine Essi Avellan and Dr. Tony Jordan, has highlighted the personality of the Vilarnau cavas and their strong Mediterranean character, as well the winery’s business approach, based on the respect and care for the environment.
The making of Vilarnau Brut Reserva follows the traditional method of secondary fermentation in the bottle, prior to an ageing of over 15 months. The result is a cava wine characterised by the balance brought by its Macabeo grapes, the acidity and freshness of Parellada and the aromatic enhancement distinctive of Xarel.lo. Best served between 6º and 8º C, Vilarnau Brut Reserva is a perfect match to appetisers as well as seafood, white meats, poultry and fish in sauce.
