Retmavid 15 has been born to address the diseases of the vine. It is a research and experimental development project organised by Viñas del Vero and Finca Constancia, along with Martín Codax, Technological Centres VITEC, the Research Institute on the Vine and Wine of the University of Leon and the University of Zaragoza. This initiative aims to minimise the impact of vine wood diseases by increasing the age of the vineyard through the application of new technologies such as artificial vision, algorithms and natural and bio-stimulating products.
Currently, vine wood diseases are one of the major challenges to overcome in the wine sector worldwide. A large number of European research centres as well as companies with their own production of grapes are studying various approaches to minimise this situation, as it was the case with phylloxera more than a century ago.
The full name of this initiative is "Application of new technologies for monitoring and increasing the vineyard lifespan and the development of new products and strategies for the integrated management of diseases of the vine wood". The area of action will be three of the major winegrowing areas of Spain affected by wood diseases: Tierra de Castilla (Castile-La Mancha), Rías Baixas (Galicia) and Somontano (Aragon).
