Finca Constancia is the new face of Spanish winemaking. Identifying a need for modern, fruit-driven wines, together with an ambition to produce wines of the highest quality, the company researched areas where this goal could be realised. A 220-hectare property in Otero, near Toledo, was purchased and in 2001 the planting programme began on 79 separate parcels, or ‘parcelas’, classified according to their soil type and microclimate and a state-of-the-art new winery was built.
The vineyards host a number of grape varieties both native and international including Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Graciano, Garnacha, Verdejo and Sauvignon Blanc.
Finca Constancia is passionate about environmental protection and is currently converting to biodynamic practices. The work in the vineyard is carried out at a pace dictated by the cycles of the moon and the position of the planets. Only composted vegetable material is used to nourish the soil, cover crops are planted to incorporate more nitrogen into the soil and the land is populated with local fauna to promote a natural ecosystem.
