The González Byass Foundation is joining in the International Archive Day celebrations again this year. This time it is sharing some of the winery’s documents relating to 19th century epidemics - online of course.
Jerez de la Frontera, June 2020.- As has become a tradition now, the González Byass Foundation is celebrating International Archive Day by opening up its Historical Archive online. The best contribution we can make in the current situation is to fulfil our main purpose: to become memories. To this end, and as a simple tribute to all who have been affected by the pandemic, we will be displaying a number of documents that reveal the effects of the cholera epidemics that hit Spain during the 19th century. As an exceptional measure, visits in person are not permitted, but we have made a short video that will be available on the González Byass Foundation’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.
On 9th June 1948, UNESCO created the International Archive Council, and International Archive Day has been celebrated on 9th June every year since 2008. The event is designed to promote the valuable part played by these institutions in research, culture and memories.
The González Byass Foundation wants to join in this commemoration once again, by placing its documentary heritage in the public domain and offering a virtual open-door day this Tuesday, 9th June.
