The Tío Pepe neon sign joins the #EarthHour 2015

Publicada el
The Tío Pepe neon sign at Puerta del Sol in Madrid went out on Saturday March 28 at 8:30 pm. This way, this emblematic landmark joins WWF’s "Earth Hour" in its endeavour to highlight that the fight against climate change is possible. In this campaign, the largest global initiative to protect the environment, millions of people around the world will turn off their lights to show their commitment to the planet. As was the case in 2009, the lights of this historic neon will stop to illuminate Madrid’s Puerta del Sol in order to support a symbolic action with a global impact. Governments, citizens and businesses from around the world will join together to try to raise public awareness about the effects of global warming and demand actions to control CO2 emissions. As a result, highly representative Spanish monuments –including Puerta de Alcalá in Madrid, the Alhambra in Granada, the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona and the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao– will become exceptional settings for celebration and tribute to the planet. González Byass will join them by turning off the Tío Pepe neon, a true symbol of Puerta del Sol, Madrid's most central square.
