Beatriz Vergara, director of wine tourism at González Byass, has received the “City of Jerez Promotion Prize” from Deputy Mayor Francisco Camas, Head of Cultural Development. The City Hall recognises those entities that have given widespread promotion to the name of Jerez. One of the best festival experiences in Spain, the Tío Pepe Festival was chosen as the 2019 winner of the award.
For the last six years, the historic buildings that comprise the González Byass winery have been the stage for unique performances by some of the world’s top artistes. The Tío Pepe Festival is an experiential event where music and gastronomy are partnered with the Family’s best wines. The Festival unfolds in a unique series of historic buildings and in the vine-covered streets and squares that house the wineries in which the iconic Tío Pepe wine was created.
The most famous Fino Sherry in the world has lent its name to a festival that, over a very short space of time, has become an unmissable event that transcends the boundaries of mere spectacle. It has become an exceptional experience with its own character that offers a unique programme and is, without doubt, a major fixture on the summer calendar.
The leading artistes who have performed at the González Byass Bodegas include Luz Casal, José Mercé, Rocío Márquez, Leonor Leal, Estrella Morente, Ismael Jordi, Ainhoa Arteta, Miguel Poveda, Bárbara Hendricks, Miguel Bosé, Rosario Flores, Juanes, Roger Hodgson, Sara Baras, Juan Diego Flórez, Ana Belén, Jethro Tull and Alan Parsons Live Project.
