Blecua, the icon of Somontano

Publicada el
Blecua Mágnum 2004, awarded 99 points in the latest edition of the El País’ Yearbook of Wines, is among those wines considered as "the greatest wines of our country”. Apart from Blecua –the wine jewel of Wineries Viñas del Vero– this score has been achieved only by another extraordinary Spanish wine: the famed Vega Sicilia Reserva Especial 1994/1996/2000. "Spectacular" is the qualification given by the publication´s taste panel to a cult wine, produced only in the most exceptional vintages. With extremely limited production, it is the result of a comprehensive triple selection of vineyards, grapes and casks. The best wine from Somontano also has an extraordinary aging potential. Blecua displays a spectacular intensely dark cherry colour. Complex with an intense nose, the elegant aromas acquired during its stay in new barrels join the memories of black fruit jam, eucalyptus, roasted coffee, chocolate and liquorice. The palate is powerful, rich and full of noble tannins. It has a good present and a very promising future, since its life may be extended to at least ten years. José Ferrer, oenologist at Viñas del Vero , is the father of this wine gem, which is among those wines considered as "greatest achievements by our best winemakers" by El País’ yearbook . Blecua is sold in specialty stores and on the González Byass online shop.
